Tigers and Hysterical Villagers

Spoke with my niece (age 3) and nephew (age 6) on the weekend. My niece has been dressing as a tiger all week. She has been going everywhere in a tiger suit - shopping, church, play group, everywhere. She had a great idea when she saw the family cats grooming themselves that she could also do the same and started to lick her tiger tail. She couldn't figure out why her Mum got all upset. Her Mum pointed out to me that the tail of the tiger costume had been on its own adventure all week which included trips through dirt, gravel, not to mention a couple of dips into the toilet. Meanwhile her big brother was all excited as he is going on a school field trip to the Howick "Hysterical" Village. I was also excited for him, if not a little concerned at what exactly a "hysterical" village was. His Mum explained that the Howick Historical Village is where they dress in period costume and do things like churn butter and look at old buildings and horse and carts and such. ...

Work Drinks

Tonight we have drinks after work. These have been cancelled for a year but have recently been reinstated and I am very happy about this. They were cancelled is for three reasons. Reason One: After a while, the same people kept turning up for drinks each week Reason Two: These same people kept arriving earlier and earlier on a Friday to start the tab off (official start is meant to be 5pm, but people were starting to head down at 4pm in order to get a head start on the tab). So even if new people did come at the official time, the tab was used up. Reason Three: People used order two drinks at once (more in the case of red wine where it doesn't matter if the drink warms up) or go straight for spirits instead of the unwritten rule of limiting yourself to only beer and wine. Anyway, with all of this in play, the board decided to cancel the drinks as "some people were ruining it for everyone". We are now week four into having the drinks back but here's the thing: we are n...

Button

Today someone came to my desk, needing to talk and work through a problem. I really did care, it is just that what I did next really did make it seem like I didn't. As they were talking, I noticed a thread on my jacket. I pulled the thread. The thread was connected to a button. The button began to unravel. I got so focused on the button that I lost track of what the person was saying. I then got so absorbed the task of stopping the unravelling that I then started to talk about the button issue to the person and my strategies on how to stop it falling off. In case you are interested I managed to stop the unravelling so the button has not fallen off. I plan to sew it back on more securely this weekend. I have no idea if the person solved their problem.

Update

I still can not unscrew the light shade. I am still sitting in the dark. Last person who visted was a person from the bank and I didn't have the nerve to ask him to change a light bulb for me. Not sure what depresses me more - that I am sitting in the dark or that I don't have many visitors.
