Business Class

For the last week I have been in Germany and I have so many stories to tell that I don't know where to begin!! I suspect the tales will need to go over a few posts and some involve photos that I need to down load, so watch this space. For now - let's talk about business class travel. As this was a work trip, I was flying business class. Air travel any other way is now ruined for me. The pampering, the free stuff, the food, the flat beds - it is bliss!! Okay so there are some awkward parts, like when all the economy class people board and walk past you as you are sipping champagne and you are not sure whether to smile broadly and whisper "Suckers!!!" or to avoid eye contact. The business class lounges are also lovely. Although it was interesting in the stop over at Dubai, where it seems EVERYONE flys business class, so the lounge runs the then length of the airport and they have created another lounge for the truly wealthy who fly first class as opposed to us simple fo...

Toe Pack

I have been hearing an ad on the radio for the last week. It is advertising a car that comes with all these extra features included in one low price. One of the features was a "toe pack". I have spent the last week wondering what the heck that is. I came up with some very imaginative concepts, one which involved foot warmer device that connects to the brakes and keeps your toes warm in winter and then turns into a cooler for summer. Another which involved an emergency chiller that you store in the glove box in case your toe gets chopped off while you are in the car. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered it is just a tow bar. Sigh

How to upset a cat - Part Two

Decide to get your bathrooms renovated. Hire tradesmen. Once cat has gone out for the morning, have 6 tradesmen arrive at your house all at once and start attacking the bathrooms. Wait till cat comes back in and sees the 6 tradesmen. Watch cat freak out and run into the glass in his attempt to get out the cat door quickly. Try not to laugh at cat.

Near Miss

Today I almost had something very embarrassing happen. I walked out of the work toilet and into the area with the basins. I looked up and looked into the mirror in front of me and then saw my reflection from the back from the mirror behind me. My skirt was tucked into my undies. Luckily I did not walk out into the office like this. Unfortunately, for every story that ends with a "near miss" I have multiple stories where I was not so lucky. Like the time I walked the length of Auckland airport with toilet paper on my shoe. Or the time I told the Managing Director of our company that I think people who drive Range Rovers in the city and not off road are wankers (yes, he has a Range Rover) Or the time I wore two different black shoes to work (and one had a heel). Or the time I asked the Managing Director if he was wearing fancy dress to the Christmas party (themed Brazilian Carnival) and whether his outfit involved a glittery G-string and head-dress. Or the time I was asked wher...

Stretching Man

Every morning when I come to work, I come across a stretching man. The man is dressed head to toe in lycra. He stretches next to a wall that is the height of his chest. He places one foot on the top of the wall and raises one arm in the air. He looks like an open pair of scissors. He stands like this as I arrive at the coffee shop across from work. He stands like this for the entire time I wait for my coffee. He stands like this as I walk into the building. I wonder if he is stuck.

Full of surprises

I like it when I surprise people. My music tastes are something that constantly surprise people, mainly because of the breadth of music that I like and listen to. A good example is some tunes I bought on line recently - one is the new Eminem album "Recovery", the other is some tracks from the TV series "Glee". When I discussed this at work it caused much amusement as people tend to see me as more of a bubblegum pop kinda girl than a rap or hard rock fan. Truth is I am both! Yep - if you hit shuffle on my MP3 player you are likely to be hit with some Everclear, then a show tune, then Robbie Williams, on to Placebo, Green Day, Fall Out Boy and then round it off with some S Club 7. Just shows - you can't judge a book by its cover.

How to upset a cat

First you need to start with a cat that is very sensitive to everything. Then name it Twinkle. Then get the cat set in a routine: bed, breakfast, bed, dinner, bed. Follow this routine for many years. Then, one crazy Sunday morning, decide to move your room around. Specifically, change the location of the bed. Watch what happens.... What happens is that the cat wanders into the room to get back into bed and does an awesome double take. He then wanders round the bed in it's new position and meows loudly for about an hour. Then you pick him up and put him on the bed and he quickly jumps off. Two hours later he jumps on the bed, still meowing. Two days later, he is still annoyed that you have changed the room without asking first and is clawing your head when you sleep in order to express how annoyed he is. I should have known. Last time I changed my duvet cover, he didn't talk to me for a week. This change could be a deal breaker in our relationship.
