Past Mistakes - Finally Made Good

I am the first to admit I have made mistakes in the past. Big mistakes. Expensive mistakes. My track record with heaters is a perfect example. In New Zealand, I had gas heating. My first years in Melbourne I rented and had central heating (bliss). When I bought my own house, the central heating was broken (and expensive to repair) and so began my tragic heater history. Heater Number One: The Everdure Comfort Zone CH205 This heater promised so much. To "take complete control of your home heating" with it's "2000W ceramic heating element" and "90 degree oscillation to warm all the parts of the room". Oh how I was woo-ed. When it all boils down, the Everdure is a fan heater that succeeds in making you cold rather than warm. Next came Heater Number Two: The Dimplex Oil Filled Column Radiator OFC2411TIF The issue with oil heaters is that they take time to warm up, so you can't just get home from work and switch it on and be in a warm house. Luckily this...

Thumb Hats

I like our stationery cupboard. Today I found a funny thing you attach to your thumb. Like a little thumb hat. They were available in all different colours. I chose blue for me and green for my friend John. I have attached a picture that John photocopied of my hand. It is not a good photocopy but you get the idea. Apparently it is used when you have to flick through lots of papers. I am using mine as a fashion accessory and also have put one as a hat on my toy cow that is on my desk that poos lollies (the cows poos lollies, not the hat). Good times on a Thursday.

Found in hallway...confusion

Came home to find in hall way what looks like splaters of blood on carpet and a few sticks, some with blood on them. And nothing else. No fur, no limbs, no feathers. Checked the boys in case they had been injured - nothing. Checked the house in case they had brought in a small creature that had been injured - nothing. Now confused.

I hate Powerpoint

I hate that I am good at powerpoint. I hate that I like things to be colour co-ordinated and in the same font. I hate that I like borders, neatly formated pages and pictures from getty images with faded edges (a new feature in Office 2007). I hate that my boss knows this about me so gets me to do the marketing team presentation templates. I hate that I enjoy doing templates. I hate that I then get annoyed when people try and change my carefully designed templates. I hate that I then have to pretend not to care that they changed my carefully designed templates so that I don't be come "that person" who cares about things like templates.

Turf War

After two weeks away, one thing has changed at home. This change was discovered as I was lying in bed with my two cats asleep at the end of the bed on Saturday morning. Suddenly we heard a meow from outside the window. A quick head count revealed that all members of the feline Day household were present and accounted for in the room, which meant only one thing, a new cat had landed in the neighbourhood. We had had such scares before, back in 2004 when one of the residents in our block of units dared to get a kitten. Penne and Twinkle very quickly pulled this behaviour into line and those people and their offending kitten quickly moved out. Turns out new tenants had moved into the unit next door while we were away...and they have a cat. The cat has had it easy for the last two weeks, the boys have been at a cattery, so this new resident obviously thought he had the run of the place. Oh how wrong he was. The boys quickly sorted out their welcome routine and went out to "introduce th...

Team Building

Yesterday I went on a team building day with one of our factory. To start with the location was a ranch that was about 4 hours drive from Melbourne. So starting out at 6am we had the GPS cued up with the address but hit our initial hurdle that the computer did not recognise the address. Hmmmmm. Eventually we figured out the issue was that we had the town wrong and fixed the issue and found a route to get us there. Once we had driven for 3 and a half hours, the road turned to gravel. Then it turned to dirt. Then it turned to dirt with big ruts in the road and warning signs that said you should not travel on the road if it was raining....and it was clouding over. Anyway, we finally made it safely there, and were helpfully informed that there was another paved the road to the ranch that we could have taken....information that would have been helpful at the start of the trip. Then the games began. We were put in teams and I was grouped with 4 lovely guys who worked on the line. We started ...
