After two weeks away, one thing has changed at home. This change was discovered as I was lying in bed with my two cats asleep at the end of the bed on Saturday morning. Suddenly we heard a meow from outside the window. A quick head count revealed that all members of the feline Day household were present and accounted for in the room, which meant only one thing, a new cat had landed in the neighbourhood.
We had had such scares before, back in 2004 when one of the residents in our block of units dared to get a kitten. Penne and Twinkle very quickly pulled this behaviour into line and those people and their offending kitten quickly moved out.
Turns out new tenants had moved into the unit next door while we were away...and they have a cat. The cat has had it easy for the last two weeks, the boys have been at a cattery, so this new resident obviously thought he had the run of the place. Oh how wrong he was.
The boys quickly sorted out their welcome routine and went out to "introduce themselves".
Turns out this new resident is a wee bit tougher than the kitten, and my boys returned rather quickly, tails between legs.
This morning, I saw the neighbours cat sitting out in my front yard, clearly showing he had no fear.
The turf war has started, things could get nasty.
