One too many

I have just been woken up to a tapping on the cat door. Went downstairs to see who it was. Saw one cat inside. Then two cats. Then three cats. Wait, I only have two cats? Seems Tui's larger doppleganger came in the cat door and got stuck. No one seemed particularly upset by this but the stranger was tapping quite vigourously to get out while my two watched on.

New Job - four days in

Have been at my new job for four days. People are lovely, work is interesting. Still freaking out at being able to finish at 5.30pm! Love it and long may it continue! Settled into my desk and the first thing I noticed was a lever that said "pull" on the corner of the desk. Spent the first three days imagining what would happen if I pulled the lever. Was slightly disappointed when I finally asked today and discovered that all is does is raise or lower the desk. My ideas were much more creative. Second thing I did was manage to change the orientation of the image on my computer screen. Somehow I managed to rotate the image on the screen 90 degrees to the left. So you had to tilt your head on the side to be able to read anything on the screen. The people around me were very impressed. They had never seen anything like it before. Neither had I. Luckily IT were able to teach me how to fix it.  I must admit that even IT couldn't figure out how I managed to image turned without ...

Sleep patterns and outside toilets

Okay, my sleep patterns are completely out of wack. I realise I have created this mess post a few late nights but now I can't seem to get to sleep before midnight and then wake up at about eight. I then do the big "no-no" and have a nana nap in the afternoon, which of course then leads to me not going to be until midnight. So like a toddler, I need to drop my afternoon nap and try to get to bed at a reasonable hour on a school night so that I can get up at six for work next week. Expect me to be grumpy and potentially throw my toys today. On to other strange behaviours, my small cat, Tui, is now allowed outside. She is not very brave so sticks to the back garden. Very adorable watching her chase crickets and sleep in the flax bush. Her skinny little tail gets very big and fluffy as she assumes her "stalking pose". What is funny is that despite the fact she has a perfectly good garden to use, she still comes in side to use her kitty litter tray. As for my drugged...

And so the holiday is over.

Well it's official, I am no longer unemployed and from next Tuesday will have to get up early and make my way into central Auckland to start my new job. Very exciting and is a departure from what I have been doing for the past 12 years which is both scary and motivating all at the same time! Next few days are all about chilling out, as well as trying to get on top of the last bits of unpacking.  Suspect I will do more of the first than the second!!

Found

It is with some relief that I can report that I have found the missing hot cross bun. It was in the driveway under my car. Thank God I had not eaten it and then forgotten about it.

Missing hot cross bun

Yesterday I went shopping. I bought a pack of six hot cross buns. On the way home I got hungry so I grabbed one and ate it. When I got home, I only had four hot cross buns. So one of two things has happened - either I ate a second hot cross bun and forgot I ate it, or there is a rogue hot cross bun floating round my car.

Getting ink done

Last night I wrote on my hand that I had to baby sit today so I would not forget. This morning I woke up and the ink had transferred onto my face. Certainly has made me remember to babysit.

Depressed Cat

My elder kitty Penzance is on kitty Prozac. He is not happy. Well he was not happy before he went on kitty Prozac, and the drugs have certainly not made him any happier. They have made him more mellow...wait, I think I mean stoned. He just sits around with a glazed expression on his face and stares vacantly into space. How is that different from how a cat usually is, I hear you ask? Well, okay, fair enough, I agree cats are not the most interactive of pets at the best of time, I think Penne is just less lively and less affectionate. Poor little mite - what I have I done to him. I have completely flipped his universe around and now am drugging him!!  The Vet tells me to give it one more week for the drugs to settle down and maybe lower the dose a bit. I feel like an evil cat owner who is medicating her cat for her convenience (eg stopping him spraying) rather than just letting him get through the stress of a move the way he chooses to. I miss my affectionate wee boy and I ...

How much junk do you have???

Turns out I have a lot of stuff, no, not stuff, junk. Yep, I collect a heap of stuff (aka junk) that will be useful "one day". I am not sure when that day will be, but I have things ready just in case!!! So far I have unpacked the spare room, lounge, kitchen and bathrooms - with the help of some very long suffering friends and family. The office is tidy but packed full of junk. At least it is in a state that I can leave it until I get further energy to sort through the individual drawers and the filing cabinet. My bedroom is fine, but the wardrobe is scary. Have way too many clothes - half of which I do not wear, so need to do some serious sorting here......maybe tomorrow. And finally the garage. Oh dear, the garage. That is the place where junk is ending up once I have rejected it from the main house. So I have things in there to pass on to friends and family, things to take to the tip and things to sell on Trade Me. The one thing I do not have in the garage is my car, as it...

OMG OMG OMG!!!

Soooo happy, just discovered that I can listen to Hamish and Andy over here!!!! Brilliant! They are only on once a week in Aus, and apparently they play that show on Saturday mornings on whatever station I have on (was just fiddling round the dial). Brilliant!!!!!! What a happy way to start the day. Much better than yesterday when I discovered that my cat had pee-ed on a power board and shorted out the circuit breaker and possible electrocuted himself.

Nature and moving boxes

My word we have had some heart stopping examples of how powerful nature can be. The earthquake that hit Japan yesterday, followed by the tsunami is incredible in both its scale and its force. The imagery is incredible. Certainly puts any minor dramas in my life in perspective! In my world, my furniture has arrived which is awesome. Thanks to the help of three lovely ladies, the majority of things have been put away. My bedroom and study are still a war zone but alas only I can sort through that mess!! I have also discovered a heap of things that I don't need that need to be sold or given away - and that is currently crowding up my garage until I get the motivation to move it!!! The thing that has annoyed me the most is the damage to some items in the move (which I will of course claim on). The strange thing is, some things in the pack were packed with extreme care by the movers - lots of padding etc. But other things (including really fragile things like a glass lamp and glasses) w...

It takes a strong cat to admit he has a problem.

I am the first to admit that it has been a pretty full on last 12 months for me. So much has happened that has challenged me mentally and emotionally, but I am pretty happy with the way I have handled it all and I remain upbeat and enthusiastic about the future. The same can not be said for Penzance, my ten year old cat. Penne has had a rough time. First he lost his best friend Twinkle. Then his horrible mother had bathroom renovations which meant his home was invaded by lots of strangers. Then his horrible mother bought a kitten home (who tried to attack him). Then his horrible mother decided that she would put him on a plane and move him to a strange country. Then she made him live in a room for 2 months with the kitten and would not let him outside. Poor Penne - while he is usually a friendly and happy cat, he has become anxious and sprays everywhere. And who can blame him? On the weekend he went outside for the first time, and unfortunately he ran into a neighbourhood cat who w...
