ROAR

When I collected my mail from my letterbox, I had a card from the postman saying that I have a parcel to collect from the post office. Couple of things made me laugh about this card. The first is that on the back it has some check boxes for the postman to tick to show why the parcel could not be delivered.  The one that was checked for me was; "The letterbox is not large enough. Please ensure your letterbox is large enough for the mail you receive." The second is that on the front of the card, there was this..... Awesome.

Painting is messy work

Well we have reached the end of the weekend and it has been productive. I started to tackle the task of painting my new house. Have done the first coats of undercoat to hide the two bright rooms that the old owners had done for their kids. As per usual, I have gotten myself covered in paint...completely covered in paint. This is partially as a result of me slipping off a step ladder and sliding down a wall, and partially as a result of me being a very messy worker. The photo of my hand is taken AFTER a shower. Still debating on colours but I think that I have narrowed it down. And I have hired the decorators who will be tackling the rest of the house. So now I am relaxing and watching one of my fav movies, "Hot Fuzz", and then I might just watch one if my other favourite movies "Kick Ass". Good times.

Sacrificial Hamster

Today we got our fortnightly work email newsletter. Now normally I have a rule that I do not discuss work on my blog, but I am going to make an exception today. So, the work newsletter normally covers things that employees round the world are doing and wins we have had in the business, but today an unusual article appeared. It explained that in one of our offshore offices, the team has found the shed skin of a cobra in the office! And they are on the 27th floor!!!! Pretty scary stuff, so they called in the experts to try and find the snake to remove it. And what did the experts do? Well they stuck a hamster in a cage as LIVE BAIT in order to trap the cobra. The hamster has apparently survived a few days now, so the team HAVE NAMED IT!!!!!. To make it worse, they then have stuck a picture of said hamster in the newsletter. AND IT IS ADORABLE!!!! Okay, I get that cobras are deadly and I get that they can not be in the office.  I get that in order to catch a snake you nee...

Awkward Conversation

This morning I was meeting a painter at my new house so that he could quote on painting the whole house interior. As he went to leave the doorbell rang, and at the door was the old owner (they had left a couple of things in the house and wanted to pick them up). After seeing the tradesman, she asked me what I was getting done on the house and I admitted that I was doing some painting. She looked at me and said “But we only did all that wallpapering a year ago and the kids rooms are freshly painted too. Why would you need to paint?” Hmmmm. Awkward.

New house

So now I start the journey of investigating tradespeople to help me to do up my new house before I move in. I do appreciate that I have picked an awkward time of year to do this, but I remain hopeful that I will find someone who can start work before Christmas!! I am starting with finding someone to strip the wallpaper, skim the walls and then paint.  I suspect I may end up doing part of the process myself (eg the wallpaper stripping and/or painting) but I really need to get a quote first to see if I could afford to get a professional to do it all. Lord knows the quality of work would be better and certainly the job would progress a heap faster! I am meeting someone tomorrow. When I rang his number to make the time, a guy answered and said in a tired voice: "No, I am not Robert, no I don't want to paint your house, and when you see Robert can you please tell him that for the love of God he needs to change his business cards to have HIS number on them and NOT MINE".  This ...

Returning to the scene of the crime

Today I drove into work and parked in the same car park where I had my accident last week. I am using the rental car as I won't get BZZYBE back until next week.  It was with much intrepidation that I entered the car park, and you will be pleased to hear that I did not hit anything. On a completely separate topic, my family are very passionate people, and we sometimes get tunnel vision about things.  Some might say we approach life in one of two ways: at full speed or we are completely stationary. While this can be great, it can be a bit full on for those who have to live with the effects of the full speed, and frustrating for those who have to experience us when we are stationary. I am trying very hard at the moment to be more balanced in my approach to life.  But man, it is hard!! When I enjoy something, I want to do it lots. When I don't like something, I don't want to do it at all. The realities of life and being an adult is that you ...

Weather

I have an app on my phone that gives me the weather forecast for the next five days. It is really useful, but I have discovered one thing about it that disturbs me. Sprinkles. That is how my app describes light rain. Sprinkles?  That is just not right. Today we have experienced "sprinkles".  Tomorrow they are forecasting "showers", which are clearly different to "sprinkles", I just don't know exactly how.

Badge of Shame

Today I dropped off BZZYBE to get fixed. As part of the deal with my insurance company, they provide me with a rental car.  However, when I went to pick the rental car up, I realise that the car has a very unwanted piece of signage on it. Across the back, it reads; "The driver of this car was a moron and smashed her car. So we have given her this car while we repair her stupid mistake. If you insure with us, we can give you a car too when you are a moron." Okay so maybe I am not quoting it word for word, but that is certainly what I took out of the message across the boot of the car. So I have to drive this car with a badge of shame across the back for about a week. I will also be wearing a hat and dark glasses, and only driving a night.

Car Crash

So on Wednesday, I had a car accident. Well that does make it sound worse than it was. I was in a car and I had an accident. Okay, let me start at the beginning. I had been out all morning so got to work at about 11am.  I went to my usual car park, but realised that I probably would not be able to get a park at that time. The car park I use is very cheap, but it is pretty derelict. It was not designed to be a parking building, so has three levels with three different entrances to each level. Within the car park area itself, there are random pillars that you have to manoeuvre round. I went in to the middle floor where I normally park and sure enough, it was full. But I did realise that the second level probably had space, so decided to give that a go. After doing a difficult 37 point turn to get out of the first level, I attempted to get round a corner and up the steep ramp to the second level.  Here is where things when horribly wrong. I had approached the ramp ...

Names that are hard to take seriously - Dr Rainbow

This name was signed at the bottom of a letter I received from the city council. Awesome. I like to picture Dr Rainbow sitting on a unicorn.
