The big picture

Lately I have been a bit blue, so I am trying to find some longer term goals to focus on in order to keep things in perspective. One of those things is my new goal to walk the Tongariro Crossing at Christmas. I will be honest with you, this goal scares the shit out of me. I am not fit and I am overweight. But I am seeing a trainer twice a week to try and fix both of those problems. By having a goal, it really helps me to focus more the longer term gains of this hard work, rather than get down because I have had a bad day. Last night I walked for an hour with my trainer with about 6kg on my back. It was hard, damn hard!! But I am proud that I did it and I know that if I keep doing things like that, that by December, I will be up for the challenge of tackling The Crossing.

How many cats is too many? I say four.

I have two cats - Penzance and Tui. My parents have two cats - George and Zoe. Normally these four cats have nothing to do with each other, and that works for everyone. However, I am currently looking after my parents cats. George and Zoe are staying in my garage for a couple of months. Now before you get all SPCA on me, I have a large double garage, which has nice big windows, and lots of light. I have also added a rug, couple of lounge chairs and a heater so they are warm and toasty. They should be happy. But they are not. George meows loudly when he feels I have not spent enough time with him or fed him as promptly as he would like, or just because it is two in the morning and he is bored. Zoe just looks at me with general disdain every time I go into the garage. But probably the worst part of having four cats, is the shopping. Last week I had to buy four bags of kitty litter, about half a trolley of cat food, and then for me, a couple of bottles of wine and some frozen meals....

Making the most of the weekend.

What a great weekend! My nephew's birthday went well. He loved the cake and saw immediately that it was supposed to be a Lego man. My niece thought it was a caterpillar. Sigh. My nephew and his friends had loads of fun. Although I was asked to leave as "you're a girl." So my niece and I went and played Barbies upstairs. It is her birthday party next weekend, so hopefully I will be allowed to stay at that. Unless I get asked to leave cause I am too old. I learnt a lot about kids parties. For example; seven and eight year old boys are loud. Also, it is frowned upon to ask for wine......or valium. Who knew? Rest of the weekend was spent catching up with friends. It was not spent doing practical things like washing, getting a WOF for my car, or sorting through the bomb site that is my office. Maybe next weekend. Maybe. Now home with my four cats (long story for another post) and thinking about what to have for dinner. I'm thinking wine.

A look back on my holiday...my favourite pictures

The creation of a Lego Man

Tomorrow is my nephew's birthday. I am in charge of the cake. As usual, my ambitions outweigh my abilities, which is a pity cause I really wanted to make something that looked cool. Anyway, here is the journey....... Step One: Create a pattern Step Two: Assemble the ingredients - especially wine. Wine is good. Step Three: Shape the cake, using the pattern. Step Four: Add a layer of icing to stick the fondant to. Step Five: Realise that you don't own a rolling pin. But you do own wine. Wine bottles can be a rolling pin!!! Here he is. Not great but you can tell what it is...right?!

Reading is important

Yesterday I realised that I had run out of moisturiser. Luckily I had a free sample of moisturiser from a gift pack, so I used that. All day, my face felt a bit odd. I thought maybe I had a allergic reaction to the new moisturiser. Last night, I checked the sachet, and discovered, to my horror, that it was not in fact moisturiser that I had applied, it was a face mask. I wore a mask that is supposed to be on for 30min, for a whole day!!!!! So the lessons is, always read labels.

Inside out

Today I went to a meeting with clients. It was about half way through the meeting that I noticed that my dress was on inside out.  I was mid speech, so had to keep going, but all I could think about was the dress.  Things that made me feel better: 1. I was wearing a long jacket which covered a lot of the dress (including tag at the back).  2. The dress is very neatly finished, so in theory, you could think the over locking down the seams was a fashion thing. 3. Finally, the meeting was with three farmers, and to be honest, I don't think they gave a shit what I was wearing. Things that did not make me feel better - This is the second time I have gone to meetings with a dress inside out. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME????
