Bathroom Renovations - The 2012 Edition

Long time readers will remember the bathroom renovations I undertook in 2010. The journey was long but the results were great. Unfortunately I only enjoyed them for a few months before I sold the house. So now we are in 2012, and I find myself living in another house that is in need of a bathroom renovation. On one hand I am excited - I know what I like and what works. On the other hand, I still have VIVID nightmares about the drama from the last reno, which included (in no particular order); Black tiles being laid instead of cream, Being locked out of my house one night because they forgot to get the all clear after the asbestos removal, The plumber who decided to search through rooms in my house that he was not supposed to go into and as a result let my kitten out, The other plumber who left a big hole in the exterior wall cause he didn't think I would notice. (He forgot that my neighbour looked onto that wall and kindly let me know). The almost $10k overspend because they discov...

Cat sized children

I need a cat door put in my back door. I rang one company to enquire about a fancy door that opens only for your cat based on their microchip number. Ooooh isn't technology awesome! Anyhow, the conversation went like this. Me: That sounds great, when can you install it? Catdoor Woman: Anytime, but I need to check, does the door open onto a spa pool or pool area? Me: Actually it does. Catdoor Woman: Oh, then I'm sorry but we can't install it. Me: Why? Catdoor Woman: Its a safety thing. Me: For the cat? Catdoor Woman: No for children. You need a council permit to do it. Me: But the spa pool is empty. Catdoor Woman: That doesn't matter. Me: But the cat door only measures 10.5 cm by 10.5 cm. What child could fit through that? Catdoor Woman: That's not the point. Me: Ummm, actually it kinda is the point. If a child can't get through, then the door is safe. Catdoor Woman: You need a permit. Me: But where are all these cat sized children? Catdoor Woman: ...... Me: .......

Rain, Chicken Pox, Good Fortune and Guilt

Gosh it has been a while. Time has flown by and has been filled with some very rainy days. I don't mind rainy weather, but what I do mind is that the time it seems to rain correlates directly with the times I go out and do exercise. Today for example is a training night, and I am currently watching the rain clouds gather and the drizzle start. It happens EVERY DAMN TIME. In other news, my niece has had chicken pox. She is adorably spotty and not actually that miserable, which is good. She certainly is nothing like how I was when I got chicken pox at age 32. I have some pictures of me which I will dig out and upload. And finally, the most exciting thing that has happened in the last week. I went to get a Coke from the machine at work. Not only did it give me two Cokes, but it also returned my money!!!  I was in raptures for quite some time at this good fortune, but am now racked by guilt that I have two free Cokes and the poor person who owns the snack machine is out both product an...

Sunday morning.

I'm sitting in my car, trying to convince myself to get out and go for my walk......

Not sure if sweet or sad.

Everyday a colleague of mine rings his wife to discuss when he will be home. They talk through what time he will leave the office, which bus he will catch and how long the trip will take, resulting in a mutually agreed ETA. They do this everyday. They have been married for over 40 years. Sweet or sad?

Red faced..and armed...and legged

Today, I got up, showered, got dressed, and went to work. As I was driving in, I felt my face getting hotter. And hotter. By the time I got to the car park, my face felt really red, and as I peered into the car mirror, I looked pretty flushed too. By the time I walked to the office, my arms and back and started to feel warm and itchy. When I walked in, only one other person was in the office (it was 7:30) and she saw the red and asked if I was okay. At this stage I was burning so I went and washed my face, But even that was not enough, so I hopped in the shower at work in order to try and wash off whatever I had got on my skin that it was reacting too. No joy. Finally at 8am, after about a hour of wanting to rip my skin off, I went to a local doctor and they gave me a shot of antihistamine in the butt. The plus to this was about 20 min later, my skin felt better, the downside was that I now had a sore butt, and I was getting really woozy. So I walked back to walk and then...
