Best Christmas Party Ever?

Certainly that have been the comments going round today. As I mentioned yesterday, some how I got roped in to managing the work Christmas party. I decided we should go play lawn bowls as it is a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon, allows people to mingle and gives them something fun to do.

So we had the party this afternoon and it went pretty well. There were lots of food, lots of drink, a divinely sunny day and lots of happy people. There was only a couple of hiccups, the first was people turning up who weren't on the list, but we were able to fit them into teams.

The second one was a bit more major. I had organised a round robin. All went well but then I messed up when I wrote up who was in the semi finals incorrectly.  The team that I had omitted (and had placed in another team incorrectly) came storming up to me. One woman was really aggro. I admitted I made a mistake and apologised, but as the semi finals had started, so I suggested that I give the team a box of chocolates as an apology and we let it be.

I guess I felt it was all in fun anyway and that no one was taking it seriously. however, the woman had had a bit to drink and is one of those people who feel the need to make a bit of a scene...which she did. Anyway, the guy who was the MC and the man from the bowling club helped me out and we ended up working out a way to get them to play...all a bit messy but everyone else was pretty mellow about the whole thing.

So I went back in the club house and when one of my fellow social club team asked me what happened I burst into tears!!!  I guess I was already stressed about the day, then embarrassed that I made a mistake, and then humiliated at the behaviour of the woman towards me.

I raced off the the loos and collected myself and the rest of the afternoon went fine.

So while we had a couple of hiccups, everyone else kept saying they had a great time and that it was the best party in a long time.

So I will mark it down as a success, but lots of learning's and if I do ever run one again, I will definitely delegate the running of the round robin!!!!!!

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
