Worst Daughter Award

I have been getting my rental property ready to rent and that has meant significant cleaning, organising some repairs and of course getting prospective tenants through to look at it.

I had planned to manage all this myself but I did accept an offer of help to clean up the place from my parents. It was greatly appreciated and the house now looks great.

I then realised that I had a couple of trades people coming over to do some repairs but was not sure if I could get the time from work to be at the house to wait for them and let them in. So I asked my Mum if she would do this.

Of course that is quite a simple task BUT it was the degrees of difficulties that I then added on top of this which was so mean to do to someone else.

You see I got all creative and thought "Ooh the tradesmen could then go to my new house and do some work" - thereby forcing my poor mother to have to let them into two houses and communicate the work that needed doing for me at each (work that I had not clearly briefed her on I might add!!). Then (and to be fair this was not my fault) the real estate agent surprised us by organising an open home at the same time that all this other stuff was happening. So my poor Mum was at my rental waiting for a tradesman and all these people turned up asking her about the rental (which again she had not been told about so did not even know what rent I was asking for!).

Aaarrgh!! Worse daughter EVER!!!

I think it has all worked out in the end, but I have learnt to do my own dirty work rather than forcing it on my poor generous mother!!!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
