Twelve months

A year ago, on the 10th November, one of my very good friends was robbed. It was a horrible time and understandably, caused her a heap of stress. As a result, she decided that she could not go to the Cold Play concert that we had tickets to.  So I need to find someone else to go with. I had been talking with a guy on line for the last couple of weeks and really enjoyed his warmth and sense of humour. I knew I wanted to meet him in person, and had arranged to have lunch with him on the 10th, but ended up cancelling so I could be available to support my friend. I then decided, on a whim, to call him and ask if he wanted to come to Cold Play with me.

It was only after I asked the question did I start to freak out. What had I done?!?!? Most first dates are coffee dates, short, non committal etc etc. THIS first date was kinda huge and had the added degree of difficulty that my sister and brother in law were also going to the concert.

I needn't have worried. This wonderful man turned up, whose smile captivated me as soon as I saw him. His easy going nature, humour and positive outlook on life made the conversation easy.  By the end of the concert I was hooked.

I remember the drive home with my sister and brother in law, smiling the whole way. Not sure if he would call. Not sure what to do next. I remember daring to hope that something more would come of this.

So now it has been twelve months, and this lovely man is mine to adore. I know one year is such a short time, but for me it is a milestone.

Thank you Chad for being all that you are. For bringing the best out in me and forgiving the worst. I love you.

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
