Today was......EXHAUSTING

We started today with high hopes. The plan was to take Grace to where we got engaged, enjoy a nice lunch and some sun shine.

Given Grace is now refusing to sit in the pushchair, we thought her trike might be the best method of transport for her.

Our first mistake was to park quite a distance from our destination. But with Grace safely on her bike, we manage the distance quite well, but we didn't come across any good places to grab some food.

On arrival at the love lock fence, Grace was just beginning to lose her mind with hunger and to be fair, so were Chad and I.  As such she was suitably underwhelmed at the location of Chad's declaration of love and was more excited by the snacks I had for her.

We decided that we'd head back to the car and hopefully find some food for Chad and I on the way. With an ice cream shop sighted on the horizon, Chad and I started to get excited.

And then Grace's bike fell apart.  Fell completely apart.

We decided to grab an ice cream to refuel and see if we could put it together. And that was when Grace fell off her chair. As the screams echoed round the ice cream shop, we realised it was time to go (minus any ice cream). We gathered the broken bike and the screaming child and retreated to a quiet corner of the Viaduct to regroup.

Then Grace tripped and fell on her face.

At that point we admitted defeat and headed to where the car was parked.

I'm sure the car was about 19km away. Certainly after 10 metres of carrying a screaming Grace it felt like FOREVER!!!! The journey was not helped by Grace yelling "bike bike" as she watched Chad carrying all the pieces. Have you ever tried to explain to a tired two year old that her bike is broken and no amount of yelling will fix it? I suggest you don't try.

After HOURS we made it back to the car and I snapped a picture of the bike carnage.

A long day. An exhausting day. But a bloody funny day.

BUT when we got home Chad managed to fix the bike!!! Another adventure tomorrow perhaps?

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
