Rural Life

This weekend I had flashbacks to my own childhood. On Saturday we headed off to the tip, a trip I made many a time with my father growing up. Grace loved the adventure, but loved dancing in the trailer even more. That night we had my family over for my Dad's birthday dinner. I love having my whole family together and enjoy seeing how much fun Grace has with everyone. I am still feeling terribly stressed about leaving Grace while we go on our honeymoon in April but when I see how much she loves spending time with the family, I feel a little bit better.

On Sunday as the rain cleared we headed out to a farm day. Grace got to give her new gum boots a good work out in the mud as well as pat cows, miniature horses and sheep. She only face planted once in the mud in her rush to get to see a cow. Her favourite part of the day by far was the very large ice cream that she got to consume. We are not going to win any parenting awards for good nutrition yesterday, but pretty sure we will win one for lots of mucky fun.

Sunday night saw a quick impromptu visit from my Mum and Dad to solve some IT issues.  Even thought we had seen them on Saturday night, it is always lovely to have them pop round and makes me count my blessings that we live so close. They are about to head off on another global adventure and I know I am going to miss them terribly. But thank goodness for modern technology which means they are only a text or call away!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
