Tomorrow she is four.

I can't believe how time has flown. How this magical girl arrived in my already packed life and now I can't imagine what it was like without that glorious laugh.

Time in Rotarua has been wonderful. Adventures at a farm (spoiler alert: real sheep smell) and then up the gondola for lunch. Today it is very wet, so we are heading to the mall and an indoor playground to try and keep dry (stupid mummy left the raincoats in Auckland so we are sharing an umbrella and embracing being damp!). Then we'll head back to motel for a spa and movie night. And more of those delicious giggles.

Last night, Grace met another girl on the motel playground and I watched them play. It was so sweet. Grace was a year younger than the girl, and let the play be directed by the older girl. I could see her get a bit annoyed when the play was not the way she wanted her to be, and i was impressed by her confidenceat trying new things.

She got a bit sad when another girl came along (both older girls were the same age). It was hard to warch when they excluded her but I knew that i couldn't intervene. There are things I can't protect her fromin life and she has to learn her own ways of dealing with those situations. But it's very hard to not swoop in!

I'm also planning her birthday party. We have invited 7 girls. I hope they all come! We had one rsvp before Christmas so at least there is one attendee. As for theme, it's Moana for the kids party and Paw Patrol for the family BBQ the next weekend. Grace now tells me she also wants a trolls party.....hmmmm maybe next year! I've ordered a cake as I'm a bit stressed about my cooking skills but I'm commuted to making the cup cakes for daycare! EEEEEK!

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
