Back into it!

I have just finished my first week back at work after our lovely holiday. The week has been spent trying to get used to not having an afternoon nape, but ultimately thankful that I am in air conditioning on these incredibly hot days.

We had a very successful family BBQ on Saturday with the extended Mclaren clan, celebrating Grace turning five. Grace was so excited and it was lovely seeing her having such fun with her cousins.

This week, Chad and I have also spent a lot of time talking about what needs to be done over the next three months. I have lists and more lists to help keep track of the different things we have to do. It is quite overwhelming, particularly as we are struggling to keep our house tidy when we are also trying to pack and sort through the junk that we need to get rid of before we move.

I have been watching a show on Netflix which is all about organizing your house and it both delights and terrifies me! Right now we have two much stuff for the size of our house. I know that I am the core reason for this, as I tend to be able to find a way to attach sentiment to any object!  I am going to try really hard to get a bit more ruthless as we pack so that I am not just moving the junk from one house to the next, but am actually only keeping what we need, use and is truly sentimental.

I think added to the stress is the fact we have not been able to really get started on the packing in earnest as we have all of these events over the coming weekends that take up the Saturday and then by the Sunday we are all knackered and just want to chill. But time is ticking by and if we want to move in at the start of March we really need to get focused!!

Best part of the week was getting the professional photos back from Grace's dance recital.  She looks so grown up and proud.

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
