Final 5th Birthday Party

Last weekend we had the final of Grace's birthday celebrations. We headed to Rainbows End with 7 of her friends for an epic four hour party!  Grace had an absolute blast!

I didn't get to see a lot of the park this time as I was organisation the party room and the food (Wonder Woman theme for both!!).  However,  I have been with Grace a number of times to Rainbows End, I know how much fun she would have had with both Chad and her friends.

The one bitter sweet part of the party is that all these lovely girls are heading off to different schools. I have really enjoyed watching Grace's friendship with them grow, and I adore the Mums too (which makes play dates so much more bearable!!)

Apologies for only having two pictures!!! I know Chad has some better photos which I will upload when I can get them off his camera.

We are now heading into our last week at Penguins day care. Another milestone that I have mixed feelings about! I have to say I am incredibly stressed about the transition to school. We have not had the time for Grace to do school visits (the school said that they don't do them in Nov or Dec, which I did not realise!!) so Grace has only had one morning visit and we do not know who her teacher is yet.

Given how Grace (and I) struggle with change, I know that drop offs will be stressful for us both for a little while.

For now I am enjoying the casualness of daycare and our morning routines.  The first is as we drive away from home how Grace "calls" her soft toy butterfly and gives him instructions on what he needs to do with the other toys during the day (I do the voice of the butterfly and she talks into her hand as a pretend cell phone).

Then once we arrive, Grace takes the toys she has brought on the drive into the car seat so that they can safely come to work with me while she is at daycare. She kisses them and tells them to be good and not eat too many lollies.

Man, I love that girl.

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
