Moving

It has been an epic last month, with us selling our house and buying another, plus moving, plus getting old house ready for rental,  plus getting the worst flu I have had in some time, plus learning that my company may be closed by the Government and finally (and most distressingly) having our cat go missing.

So how am I feeling? Exhausted!

The first few months of this year have been very stressful and I am glad that we are now settled in our new house. We have a lot to do (finishing unpacking is the first on this long list) but we are slowing getting into a routine as a family in our new environment.

The news about my work is hard. The Government is reviewing the role of Industry Training Organisation (my company) and want to disestablish this. They won't make a final decision until June and then it needs to get ratified by parliament. In all likelihood if it is approved, we wont see change till end 2020 but it still hangs over our head as a threat and I really am not sure I have the energy to go look for a new job!

Tui going missing on Tuesday is causing me sadness. She was settling in so well, not really going outside and getting her own spots round the house to nap (we have essentially segmented the house in two, so she has space from Truffle!). So for her to disappear means that she is either stuck somewhere or got spooked and got lost outside.

Either way we wont give up, I have printed flyers for a letter box drop tonight. Fingers crossed.

In other news, Gracie is going well at school. I am proud at her growth in confidence. A little concerned about her appetite for learning, she gives up really fast and I don't know how to encourage the curiosity to learn.

I am loving hearing her stories about her day, and how she tells me she has "so much work to do!" (her nightly homework). It seems we are back into birthday season too, with two parties this weekend. While I love sharing those experiences with Grace, it is hard to actually get my "to do" list done when I am spending half my time at kids party (the cake kinda makes up for it through!!)

Chad has surgery on his shoulder in a few weeks, so I am mentally preparing for that as I will have to drop off and pick up Grace as he won't be able to drive for 6 weeks.  I think I am holding out for the Easter break when hopefully I can finally finish unpacking and make our new house our own! A sleep in would be good too :-)

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
