This week Grace and I went on a school trip to the zoo!
It was such a wonderful chance to see how Grace interacts at school and share an adventure with her and her school friends. I am so glad I got to do it as I really wanted to go on a trip before we reach the point where she is embarrassed of me (I have reconciled myself that I will never be a "cool mum" !!!)
Turns out Grace is very directive with her friends (aka a wee bit bossy!!), a bit dramatic if things don't go to plan, and also very protective of me!! One little girl held my hand and Grace got so upset!! I had to reassure her that she was my number one girl now and forever, and as an added bonus I have two hands, so one for each of them!!
Grace is also very hard on herself and got so frustrated then she couldn't spell Wallaby. Something I need to work on with her, help her see it is okay to make mistakes but you have to keep trying and don't give up. She is doing so well with the extra work we have been doing on her reading.
I am still very concerned about the school she is going to as they do not seem to be as on to things as I would like (for example I approached the teacher about Grace's reading and the teacher agreed she was a bit behind where she should be - but my thinking is the teacher should be talking with me!!) Maybe it is over protective mother syndrome, I just know how important school is in crafting you as a person. Chad and I will make a call by the end of the term about what next and if we are going to go, how do we transition her to a new school.
I am really loving seeing how creative Grace is and how much she loves drawing. My favourite picture at the moment is one she drew of herself as a unicorn.
This weekend I have some crafts planned for us to do as I know she loves it when she and I do things together. It can be hard to balance all that needs to be done in the weekend: Grace has dancing, we have general chores that need to be done, family time plus we each have our own personal things we like to do (I am getting back into cross stitch). Add to that family functions, play dates and/or birthday parties, and the weekend gets packed up and can be more exhausting than the week.
Not sure anyone ever masters the balance! When Chad gets back to work post his shoulder surgery we will invest in a cleaner again as that definitely does help take out one thing from the weekend "to do" list.
