Happy New Year

2020 is here. I personally feel that any day can be a time to commit yourself to change or improvement, it's natural at this time of year to think about what you want to happen in the year ahead. I think I would settle for a calm mind that is not so obsessively worried about money, debt and property.

Today we continue to chip away at the millions of chores around this house. I'm painting some planter boxes for the deck that we got for free off a friend. We figure it will help modernise the back area while we save to fix the deck, the balustrade and gazebo.

The house is really a five year plus project at this point, we need that amount of time to get money and the physical time to do all the work. At this point it's still an adventure and I hope to keep it that way for Chad as long as I can, otherwise it's so easy to get completely overwhelmed but all there is to get it to a point when we could sell for $2m, which is what we need to clear debt and still have enough to get another nice house.

It will be fine. I love it here when I'm chilling, and entertaining and remembering growing up here. I hang onto those feelings on the days when I look at the mess and rotting wood and repairs and want to cry.

Gotta stay positive as this year will be hard with work and I need to cope better than I did in 2019.

Right, off to do phase one on Grace's cake and then a second coat of paint on my planters. They are looking awesome!!!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
