Working weekend

Another busy weekend spent working on the house. We have in total spread 5 cubic metres of bark and are very tired and scratched but happy with the results.

Truffle and I have continued our ongoing battle with cushions on the couch. I believe we should have them, he disagrees.

Our passive aggressive routine of me putting the cushions on the couch and him knocking them off  with his nose has been going on since he arrived. I have no idea what he has against cushions but he really hates them.

Mean while Gracie and I looked at her Treasure Jar. This is the jar that I have been using since she was about three to add in the treasures she collects in her pockets or bags when she is out and about. I exclude things that rot, but it is a pretty good mix of things that she sees and things are interesting, or pretty or useful to do "crafty stuff" with.

Grace is working so hard with her drop off. We have been going to before school care and we have had tears most days which breaks my heart to see. But the positive side is that she has been transitioning really well between before school care and her class room without me there. We are so proud of her and her teacher has promised her a certificate if she does 10 times of no tears and she is really focused on that prize. I had told the teacher that she missed out last year on her "Independence Certificate" because she couldn't conquer the drop off fear, and while they don't officially give them our in year two, I love that they are making an exception for Gracie. I know she can do it!!

As for me, I still go through waves of anxiety at times and it is so frustrating when it hits you and you have to do the mental gymnastics to talk yourself back into reality and calm. But I know that I can manage, I am so strong and I can get through anything. I know that by managing this I will be a good role model for Grace and show her that you can get through anything if you have the right tools to navigate the feelings and the right people around you to give you that extra boost of love.

I am feel so tired at the moment and I think that brings on the anxiety more. But like all things, it will pass and I will focus on "what is" and not fear "what could be".

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
