Flynn

Chad is close to making the call that we need to say goodbye. It is so sad to see Chad so upset but it is time, Flynn is eating very little and not able to walk much.

I remember the goodbye to all my pets and how sad I felt. I still miss them but I try to focus on the fact that they were so loved while they were with me.

Chad raised Flynn since he was a puppy. Flynn is kind  and sweet. He may be a big dog but he is a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He has taken Truffle under his wing and I know that Truffle will be so sad without his big brother along.

Grace conceptually understands the concept of death, but at times like this I realise I have not taught her anything about God. While I don't go to church, the belief in God is a huge influence in my life and a huge comfort. I guess I have not been sure how to introduce Grace it to the concept. Something to think about.

The tricky thing about saying goodbye to Flynn is the timing with the lock down. Ideally we would want to do it at home, but that is unlikely at level three (our own vet will only do it at their offices and then, only on the deck to maintain social distancing). I have one more option I am exploring with the vet who put Penzance down at home, so really hope that can work.

It will help Chad if we can do it in at home, a calmer, more dignified place to say goodbye. And easier for me to be able to support him -if we have to go to the vet, we need to take Grace and that will make it hard for me to be with Chad and also make sure Grace is fine (she has a habit of yelling for me at the worst time!!!)

We will see what happens.

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
