Project Management

One of the hardest things about being a Project Manager at work is that it is hard to turn off the skill at home.

I am very good at my job. I trouble shoot problems, I have plan A, B and C to tap into as issues come up. There was a time that those work skills worked, for the most part, for me at home. But I find the complex life of being a Mum, a wife and a daughter, that when you plan for two many contingencies, your brain get very tired.

This time of hear is hard for me, it always has been.  I feel that there are so many needs I have to meet, so many requests, so much "invisible work" to do. I am exhausted and in fear of the next few weeks.

This morning I found myself wishing for Jan 11th. The reason why?  Because that is when all the holidays will be finished and I can go back to work. I realised this is a horrible thing to think but my brain is so full of lists to complete and of people I need to make happy, I just want to go back to the normal every day routine.

I know I need to plan less, find more peace, and appreciate the day as it is. I need to see and feel the joy my daughter has about Christmas. I need to value my Mum and Dad and the time I have with them in Taupo. I need to appreciate my caring husband and ensure he sees how much I love each day with him.

I need to just be.

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!
