Two reasons

I normally take Grace to school, but some days, if Chad has a late appointment or is working from home. That happened yesterday. Today we were back to the normal routine and Grace let me know the two reasons she really likes when I take her to school.

Reason number one - I do her hair and apparently the way I do it doesn't hurt as much as when Dad does.

Reason number two (and the one that melts my heart) - we get to do the "butterfly thing".

The "butterfly thing" is our routine in the car, which I have mentioned before. Grace brings a selection of soft toys and then they call "Butterfly" who is back home and they chat (in case you hadn't guessed - I am butterfly. Its honestly so sweet and fun  - Grace makes a ringing noise by saying "Mee Mee, Mee, Mee"(the Mee-mee''s are the little toys). Then I answer with "Hello it's Butterfly speaking" and we chat - sometimes I play other characters too who jump on the phone.

We have:

- White MeeMee - the Mum of Pink Mee Mee (the orignal mee mee who is kind and sweet) and Milky Mee Mee (the sister who always supports Pink Mee Mee) and White Mee Mee is also a teacher help and a doctor

- Tiggy - the naughty small mee mee who always gets into trouble

- Private - the well-meaning but not too bright Penguin who helps out on class trips

- Bubbles Junior - the teeny mee mee who looks after all the other teeny mee mees.

Plus Kimmie, Bamboo, Candy, Floss, Painter, Occy, Atlas, Moonlight, Rainbow Teddy, Max, Owl, White Bunny, Daffodil Bear, the three Bee Bees, and more!! I am amazed I remember everyone!!

I will keep going with this as long as we can as it's a great way to chat and set ourselves up for the day.

Picture of an 11 year olds desk

Grace has her desk in the family room, mainly due to space in her room but also to help her not lock herself away. She just finished tidying it and I love how it represents where she is at. Lots of art, Lego still displayed proudly, pillow on chair covering her phone ( she is still adhering to the no phone in her room rule, yay!), pottery on display. A beautiful blend of child and teenager!

Everyone is growing up

Turning 50 is a weird milestone - I dont feel 50, and I dont really put a lot of weight behind milestone numbers. But I do like reflecting on life, and I feel I have grown, learnt from many of my mistakes, and lived a pretty great life. The biggest change is watching just how much Grace has grown this year. Today I washed some of her baby clothes that I found so I can store them and it took me right back to when my whole clothes line had tiny little outfits on it. This year, she everything has changed and I am in so much grief for the loss of some of the old routines, it hurts!!  She is still my little button and I see that side of her when she is unsure or overwhelmed. I need to manage my patience through these growing phases, as my sister said "give her space and grace". She is the kindest, funniest and sweetest girl and I love her so much that it honestly hurts. I hope she knows that. She seems to have all my worst moments front of mind that I wonder at times if she sees ...
